Local signature and container check
Check what format the file actually contains
Compare its extension and browser MIME with its bytes. JPEG markers, PNG chunks and CRCs, or WebP RIFF boundaries and image headers are inspected without decoding the pixels. Renaming an extension does not convert an image.
Other recognized signatures, including GIF, TIFF, AVIF and HEIF, remain unsupported for deep inspection. This is not a virus scan or a guarantee that a file is safe.
Supported files and output
JPEG, PNG and WebP signatures plus bounded container structure, up to 20 MiB. Compare the actual signature with the extension and supplied browser MIME; missing MIME stays unknown. GIF/TIFF/AVIF/HEIF are signature-only and remain unsupported for deep checks. A structural result does not decode compressed pixels, transcode a renamed file, scan malware or certify safety.
Read the result with its coverage
Stored fields can be edited, copied or removed. A successful read describes the selected file’s supported containers; missing fields cannot be recovered from its pixels. A damaged or unsupported container has its own result. Review private values before copying or sharing a report.
These file operations run locally. The separate image checker can send file-header data and a reduced image copy for a model reading. Read the method and limitations when that is the task you need.
Continue the task
- Image file checks: format, dimensions, hashes and defined pixel differences — Choose a local file check for container type, display dimensions, exact duplicate bytes or native-size sRGB RGBA differences, with three reproducible synthetic scenes.
- Check an image extension against its real container — Identify a PNG named .jpg, compare its browser MIME and actual structure, and distinguish renaming, damaged data and genuine conversion.
- Prepare an image file for the check you need — Check actual format, byte size, encoded/display dimensions and known file history, then choose a supported local field, hash, pixel or optional model workflow.
- EXIF viewer and exports — Inspect the stored camera, location and caption fields.
- Remove selected metadata — Create a verified static-image copy with supported categories removed.
- Choose another file operation — Browse available tools by task.
