Midjourney v7 image checker

Check if an image is AI-generated when someone says it is Midjourney v7. The version is a generation-record question. This page does not see a version number in the pixels.

How the file travels

What a v7-era file tends to keep

v7 is a later Midjourney model, not a separate website. A file made while v7 was the default is still a Midjourney delivery: the useful copy is the download from Midjourney, and the weak copy is a screenshot or a social re-encode. Newer Midjourney versions can exist alongside v7. This page does not tell those versions apart.

Midjourney’s own authenticity page applies to images it delivers, including current ones: a hidden ID tag, checked on their site, and easily lost. Independent descriptions of downloads made after the later metadata update mention a prompt, a job id and an IPTC algorithmic-media flag in unsigned XMP. Older v6-era files often predate that packaging. We have not measured a set of confirmed v7 originals.

If you need the version, ask for the job record in the Midjourney account that created it. A filename containing “v7”, a caption, or a familiar draftsmanship style does not establish the model. Our optional classifier estimates AI generation in general. It has not been validated as a v7 attribution model.

The drawings are original illustrations of file paths. They are not outputs from Midjourney v7.

v7 does not get a special survival path. The original download is the file that can still hold Midjourney’s tag.

Metadata and credentials

Metadata and Content Credentials

Nothing on Midjourney’s Content Authenticity page says v7 embeds a C2PA manifest. Third-party roundups that claim C2PA for Midjourney disagree with that page and with other 2026 write-ups that report no manifest. Until Midjourney documents C2PA for a specific download path, do not assume a v7 file has signed Content Credentials.

What you can do here: read whatever source text is still in the file, and optionally request a general model score. What you cannot do here: verify their ID tag, trust an edited prompt string, or treat a missing credential as evidence the picture is a photograph.

This site can notice source text in the first part of a file. It does not verify C2PA signatures, asset bindings or certificate trust, and it has no SynthID decoder.

Look twice, then don’t conclude

Visual tells, treated cautiously

v7 changed Midjourney’s look again. The changes are not a test you can apply by eye.

Cleaner small structure

Hands, type and repeating detail fail less often than in much older versions. Clean detail is also what a camera produces.

Less obvious ‘AI gloss’

People describe v7 as less waxy than early v6. Retouching and other current generators sit in the same range.

Prompt-like composition

Centered subjects and cinematic grade show up because prompts ask for them. A photographer can frame the same way.

How this check handles the file

Source clues are checked in your browser first. When needed, file-header data and a smaller image copy may be sent to our backend and detection provider. Model copies have embedded metadata removed. Image URLs are retrieved by our server; see the privacy policy for processing and provider retention. Privacy details

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about Midjourney v7.

The answers below are about this generator’s files, not a promise to name the model.

Can this tell Midjourney v7 from v6?

No. We do not have a v7 classifier. A generation record from the Midjourney account is the version evidence. Visual style overlaps v6, later versions and other tools.

Do v7 images include C2PA?

Midjourney’s authenticity documentation describes a hidden ID tag and their own verifier, not a C2PA manifest. Do not assume signed Content Credentials. If a manifest is present, this site still does not verify the signature.

Where should a screenshot go?

You can check it here. Expect missing source text. An inconclusive or unavailable model result is not a camera verdict.

Is the check free?

No account is required. Limits and provider availability still apply.
