Grok Imagine image checker

Check if an image is AI-generated when it may be from Grok Imagine. Start with the original JPEG. A visible watermark can be cropped, and a missing one is not a camera proof.

What xAI documents, and what observers report

xAI’s image API returns JPEG for Grok Imagine models (grok-imagine-image and later names such as grok-imagine-image-2.0). URLs are temporary. The bytes you saved are the artifact that matters, not the link.

A review of the Grok FAQ on xAI’s docs reports a visible Grok watermark on images and videos made on the Grok website and apps, with no setting there to remove it, and says the pages it checked do not mention C2PA. We did not re-read every xAI page for this guide. The API pages we used describe URLs, base64, quality and moderation. They do not document a credential manifest.

Separate observers have reported a C2PA-like block inside some Grok Imagine JPEGs, signed with a self-signed local-use certificate. A self-signed local certificate does not establish a trusted issuer. We have not re-tested those files, and this checker would not validate the signature even if the block is present. Cropping off a corner logo removes the visible mark without proving anything about the pixels.

The drawings are original illustrations of file paths. They are not outputs from Grok Imagine.

Metadata and credentials

Metadata and Content Credentials

Treat three things separately. A visible Grok mark, if the website or app drew one, is something a person can see and a crop can delete. A metadata block, if a particular export contains one, is editable or strippable and may not chain to a trusted certificate. A general model score is neither of those.

Do not assume API JPEGs carry the same watermark as the consumer app. The FAQ language cited above is scoped to the website and apps. An API file with empty EXIF matches what earlier observers described, and it also matches a photograph that was re-saved. Empty metadata is not a verdict.

This site can notice source text in the first part of a file. It does not verify C2PA signatures, asset bindings or certificate trust, and it has no SynthID decoder.

Look twice, then don’t conclude

Visual tells, treated cautiously

The only visual mark with a documentary basis is the watermark xAI describes for its own app surfaces.

A Grok corner mark

If the file is an uncropped website or app image, look for the watermark their FAQ describes. It can be cropped, covered, or never added on a path the FAQ does not cover.

JPEG, not a PNG workflow

API examples are JPEG. You should not expect an Automatic1111 or ComfyUI text chunk. Finding one means a different tool touched the file.

Style is not Grok

Grok Imagine spans several modes and edits. Lighting and faces will not name it. Don’t invent a texture tell.

How this check handles the file

Source clues are checked in your browser first. When needed, file-header data and a smaller image copy may be sent to our backend and detection provider. Model copies have embedded metadata removed. Image URLs are retrieved by our server; see the privacy policy for processing and provider retention. Privacy details

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about Grok Imagine.

The answers below are about this generator’s files, not a promise to name the model.

Is this image from Grok Imagine?

An uncropped image from the Grok website or apps may show the watermark xAI documents. API JPEGs are not given that same guarantee in the pages we used. The optional model score does not name Grok. A crop that removes a logo removes the easy clue.

Does Grok sign Content Credentials?

The API and FAQ pages used for this guide do not document a trusted C2PA manifest. Observers have reported a self-signed block on some files. This site does not verify signatures, and a self-signed local certificate would not be a trusted issuer even if we did.

What if there is no watermark and no metadata?

The file can still be generated, or it can be a photograph. Run the check if you want a general score, and keep an inconclusive result inconclusive.

Is the check free?

No account is required. Limits and availability apply.
